What is Lewes Chamber Choir? We are a group of singers who like meeting to sing without the aim (and stress) of giving a performance. We have about 30 members and there are usually between 20 and 25 singers at each rehearsal. We nearly always sing a cappella (without accompaniment).
Annual Subscription is £90 per member, payable on the first meeting in September.
We rehearse in St.Thomas’ Church Hall just off Cliffe High Street from 7.30-9.30pm generally on second and last Sunday in the month.
Can I join? New members are welcome. Currently we have enough Altos, but enquiries for other voice parts are welcome. Any one wanting to join us should, preferably, have some experience in choral singing and a basic ability to read music. To see if the choir is suitable for you, you might like to come along to a Workshop, (usually held in January and June), and you will find dates on this website. If you decide to apply for membership to the choir, you are asked, in the first instance, to contact the Director Nick Houghton via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
What do we sing? Our repertoire is mostly Renaissance music, but like to vary that with music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods.
Members have copies of:
- European Sacred Music (Oxford Choral Classics)
- Madrigals and Partsongs (Oxford Choral Classics)
- English Church Music Vol 1: Anthems & Motets Ed Robert King (Oxford Choral Classics)
- The Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems
