What is Lewes Chamber Choir? We are a group of singers who like meeting to sing without the aim (and stress) of giving a performance. We have about 30 members and there are usually between 20 and 25 singers at each rehearsal. We nearly always sing a cappella (without accompaniment).
Annual Subscription is £90 per member, payable on the first meeting in September.
We rehearse in St.Thomas’ Church Hall just off Cliffe High Street from 7.30-9.30pm generally on second and last Sunday in the month.
Can I join? Although we never like to miss out on strong singers, we are not really able to welcome new members currently as we want to remain a chamber choir, not a choral society! Twice a year we have an all-day Choral Workshop open to all.
If you are interested in coming along to a workshop, going on the waiting list for membership, or finding out more, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
What do we sing? Our repertoire is mostly Renaissance music, but like to vary that with music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods.
Members have copies of:
- European Sacred Music (Oxford Choral Classics)
- Madrigals and Partsongs (Oxford Choral Classics)
- English Church Music Vol 1: Anthems & Motets Ed Robert King (Oxford Choral Classics)
- The Oxford Book of Tudor Anthems
Nick Houghton, who directs rehearsals, is well known in the Lewes area as both a choral director and organist/pianist with a particular interest in period performance of Baroque music.
